Your dental health is our concern at Cleary Dental. In order for us to keep your health our priority please visit our office every six months for an exam. During your exam you will be treated with a cleaning, x-ray, and checkup. Dental exams play an essential role in keeping your teeth and gums healthy. By having your teeth examined every six months, we will be able to detect any conditions and prevent them from growing worse.
X-RAY
An x-ray will be taken so that we can observe the condition of your jaw, teeth, and teeth roots. In order to block radiation, you will be covered with a lead apron during your x-ray. Our dentist will stand behind a shield to protect themselves from radiation while they take your x-rays. Then, we will need you to bite down on a hard piece of plastic that will allow the lens of the x-ray machine to line up with your mouth. When you bite down in different areas the machine will be able to take pictures of your whole mouth. Your x-rays will be able to show any signs of cavities, bone loss, and gum disease when they are observed by our dental professionals.
CLEANING
During your exam you will receive a professional cleaning since we recommend both every six months. It is common for a dental hygienist to clean your teeth. We will remove plaque and tartar from your teeth by scraping it off. Plaque is a film-like bacteria that sticks to your teeth and mouth. Tartar is just hardened plaque that has turned into hard mineral deposits and can only be removed by a dental professional. In order to remove buildup our dental hygienist will use a small metal instrument called a scalar. After this we will brush and floss your teeth. Finally, we will apply a fluoride treatment to your teeth. Fluoride is a mineral that prevents tooth decay and cavities, it can be applied as a gel or a foam.
At last, our dentist can officially scan your x-rays and check your teeth, jaw, bite, and gums. We will also be able to screen for oral cancer at this point. At this point we can consult questions regarding your health goals or procedures.
